Contract Product Photographer for Art Department

We are seeking a skilled and creative Photography and Post-production Specialist to join our team. This position involves capturing high-quality images of artwork, sculptures, and various objects, followed by post-production tasks to prepare these images for various purposes, including our website, catalogue, marketing materials, and more.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have a strong eye for aesthetics, and possess the technical skills required for both photography and image editing.

Days Required per Week: 1 day per week

Job Type: Part-Time, Freelance, Contract

Location: On-site (in-office) and Off-site (image post-production), Woodstock, Cape Town

Responsibilities:

• Physical Shoot Requirements (In-Office): Attend the office once a week with your own equipment, including lights. Capture high-resolution images of paintings, 2D artworks, and 3D objects from various angles.
• Ensure proper lighting and framing to showcase the art in its best form.
• Image Post-production Requirements (Off-Site): Crop images out of frames. 
• Remove frame shadows and imperfections.
• Thread group lots in Photoshop for catalog purposes.
• Deep etch sculptures and apply drop shadows as needed.
• Website Post-production Requirements: Resize all images to meet specific website requirements (3MB and 300 pixels dpi).
• Ensure that images are optimized for online viewing.
• Catalogue Print and Electronic
• Post-production Requirements: Prepare images for print and electronic catalogues. 
• Apply colour correction as necessary.
• Provide multiple angles of sculptures with deep etching and drop shadows.
• Collaborate with the designer to ensure images meet marketing and catalogue standards.
• Handover Requirements: Weekly, send prepared images via wetransfer to cataloguers in a ZIP format.
• For each sale, hand over high-resolution images for cloud storage.
• Ad Hoc Additional Jobs Required and Booked in Advance: Capture installation shots; Take staff portrait shots; Assist in marketing-related photography projects.
• Handle any other photography-related tasks as required and scheduled in advance.
• Qualifications: Proven experience in photography, especially in capturing artworks and objects.
• Proficiency in image editing software, particularly Adobe Photoshop.
• Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics.
•  Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with the design and marketing teams.
• Own equipment, including a camera, lighting, and any necessary tools.
