Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing

Photographic manipulation, graphic design, digital illustration, typesetting, page layout and PDF publication.

Photoshop is used to manipulate and prepare photographic material and create illustrations in the pixel format. Illustrator is a vector format tool which is used to generate intricate line drawings, illustrations and diagrammatic representations. Once a designer has prepared all their visual material in Photoshop and Illustrator, they will place their images in InDesign, incorporating visual material into a professional page layout design. InDesign is a professional typesetting and page layout tool. Once the layout is completed, a designer will export and publish their layout to the PDF format according to appropriate output settings. Acrobat specialises in PDF document manipulation and converts static layout pages into interactive content suitable for e-mail, web and device publication.

Who Should Apply?

Prospective students who wish to improve their digital skills in graphic design, illustration, typesetting, page layout and desktop publishing. Although the primary output focus is still print, the PDF platform has been extended over time to encompass all digital output media, including the internet and other delivery devices.

Web & Mobile Media Development

Interactive animated website and device content design, construction and manipulation.

As a powerful text editing tool, Dreamweaver facilitates website design and construction through an interface that is accessible to both designers and developers. Photoshop is a primary tool in preparing all pixel based imagery for the web, and Flash facilitates the delivery of multimedia content through the SWF and FLV formats. Internet and device content delivery requires an introduction to the coding environment. A basic understanding of how to generate, source and manipulate codes such as HTML and ActionScript is key. The PDF publishing format and Acrobat also provide a powerful interactive multimedia content delivery tool.
